Abstract

SANTOS ARAUJO, Jeferson; CRISTINA ZANOVELO, Daniela; DA SILVA BIASUS, Guilherme  and  MUNHOZ GALLINA, Mariana. Breast cancer in men: Reflection on nursing contributions. Revista urug. enferm. (En línea) [online]. 2025, vol.20, n.1, e507.  Epub June 01, 2025. ISSN 2301-0371.  https://doi.org/10.33517/rue2025v20n1a1.

Breast cancer results from an abnormal multiplication of cells in the breast region that forms a tumor. This neoplasm is considered rare when it develops in men, but is very serious, as it is generally detected in more advanced stages. The objective of this work was to discuss reflectively the contributions of nurses with regard to assistance and care strategies for male patients with breast cancer. To this end, a bibliographical research was carried out, which provided subsidies for reflective development. It was evidenced that the nurse's role in patient care is fundamental, as it helps them achieve independence, autonomy and acceptance of treatment and rehabilitation. Through education, this professional can discuss important health issues with his team and family members, answer questions, develop prevention, promotion and rehabilitation actions, functioning as a true channel of awareness about the peculiarities of the disease. It was concluded that men neglect the development of breast cancer, which often results in late diagnosis. In this scenario, the nurse presents himself as a professional who can implement health education strategies aimed at men, contributing to the prevention of the disease.
