This article aims to reflect on the evolution of the concept of person, based on the etymological origin of the word, ancient Roman law, the history of philosophy and the contributions of the social and human sciences. This interdisciplinary historical development, by bringing it into dialogue with the new Mental Health Law in Uruguay (2017), it encourages us to generate a theoretical-practical praxis that continues to contribute to the promotion of humanization of Mental Health Nursing care.
