Objective:

To understand the nursing relationships in the care of the elderly in Primary Care from the perspective of Foucault's theoretical-philosophical framework.

Method:

Qualitative study of content analysis. The subjects were Primary Care nurses from Belo Horizonte, Minas Gerais, Brazil. For data collection, five focus groups were held with 8 participants.

Results:

The following categories emerged: adequate support for the care of the elderly, the nurse defines the trajectory of care for the elderly, the power-knowledge relationships in the care of the elderly.

Conclusion:

Elderly care based on Primary Care implies the understanding of nursing relationships permeated by powers and knowledge. This understanding is important for the development of qualified interactions that enhance nursing practices as social actions consolidated in the health care network for the elderly.
