Abstract
MAGALLANES., Carlos; PARODI., Andrés and MANZINO., Carla. Making the university classroom a place of thinking: contributions from an experience. InterCambios [online]. 2022, vol.9, n.1, pp.13-22. Epub June 01, 2022. ISSN 2301-0118. https://doi.org/10.29156/inter.9.1.3.
The educational reality is changing at a global level, from which the University of the Republic is not exempt. This means that educators must rethink their teaching practices. This text begins with some reflections on what, for its authors, are the three fundamental questions that define teaching: why teach?, what to teach?, and how to teach? Then, focusing on the third question, it is stated and argued that, to make learning and understanding meaningful processes, students must think actively through the content and concepts that they are incorporating. Subsequently, based on research and proposals developed within the framework of Project Zero (Harvard Graduate School of Education), strategies are suggested so that educators in their classrooms (a) create opportunities for thinking, and (b) make that thinking visible; in other words, to foster a culture of thinking in the classroom. Finally, three examples of dynamics that we have already implemented in undergraduate courses in the health area are presented, which, with the necessary modifications could be applied to other fields of education.
