Abstract

SARNI., Mariana; CORBO., José Luis  and  NOBLE., Javier. Constellations of evaluation in ISEF-Udelar Programs. InterCambios [online]. 2021, vol.8, n.2, pp.66-79.  Epub Dec 01, 2021. ISSN 2301-0118.  https://doi.org/10.29156/inter.8.2.7.

The purpose of this study is to critically reflect on the predominant meanings of the evaluation component of the programs of the Bachelor’s Degree in Physical Education (ISEF) at Universidad de la República (Udelar, Uruguay). It is based on the understanding that the approaches to evaluation assumed by this component have a significant impact on the students’ training in evaluation and, eventually, it may unfold in future teaching practices. It was a qualitative study elaborated in two layers: the first consisted of an analysis of documents, carried out on 157 programs of subjects integrated to the last three curricula of the career, based on three theoretical categories: evaluate to measure, understand and transform. The second layer involved the critical study of the “constellations” aiming at clarifying the dependence relationships (dynamics) of the concept of evaluation in the curricular framework. The results indicate that the orientations of the evaluation component of the programs are transforming in the historical evolution of the curricular designs, being dominant the presence of evaluating to measure as opposed to evaluating to understand, while evaluating to transform is almost nonexistent. In conclusion, we argue that the transformation of the meanings of evaluation implies overcoming the abstraction of the concept, understanding it as part of a dynamic of constellations that must be critically approached as they define the background on which all practices are built.
