This study aims to analyze changes in graduation mean time in terms of the numbers of undergraduate careers chosen before graduation, at the Faculty of Engineering of the Universidad de la República, from 1997 to 2016. There are two main groups: the vast majority that choose only one career, and the remaining that selects more than one career, not only at the very beginning of their journey but also as the years passed. Additionally, two more categories were identified, namely graduation from the first chosen career or from other career different than the first. For every comparison, control groups were made of graduated students with only one career chosen in their entire career path, for every Engineering career studied. Graduated alumni from Computer Engineering that chose this career as the first in their academic life took significantly longer mean times to graduate than the control group. Similar outcomes were observed for Food and Chemical Engineering graduated students who opted for two or more careers, regardless of their first career selected. For other careers there were no significant differences in the mean time to graduate.
