The article gathers an experience developed in the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine of the University of the Republic (Uruguay), through the Department of Education of Veterinary Medicine, in various courses and workshops focused on writing, intended for university teachers. It is a training that addressed fundamental discursive and linguistic concepts for efficiency in the writing of teaching materials produced by teachers for their students. It reflected on the textual organizations and the discursive genres with educational purposes, according to the disciplinary profile, and put into practice strategies for the implementation of improvements in the practice of writing for teaching purposes in the faculty. The results show that this experience contributed to generate new writing practices and collaborative work among teachers, since modalities of teamwork were implemented, both for the production and for the review (discursive, linguistic and conceptual) of the written materials. This is translated, finally, into an improvement in students’ reading and writing practices, given that they are formed with textual models appropriate to their purposes and are inserted, thus, in the discursive tradition of their scientific discipline.
