ESTRADA FERNANDEZ, Zarina. LANGUAGE STABILITY IN UTO-AZTECAN LANGUAGES OF NORTHWESTERN MEXICO. Lingüística [online]. 2023, vol.39, n.2, pp.33-56. Epub 18-Oct-2023. ISSN 2079-312X. https://doi.org/10.5935/2079-312x.20230016.
Comparative intra-typological studies enhance the possibility of establishing hypotheses on the stability of change in genetically related languages. The present work presents the results of the analysis of seven different morphosyntactic constructions and reflects the variation that is observed in languages of the same linguistic family and geographical area. The discussion of the results shows similarities and differences between the languages as evidence of the stability that they show according to their closeness to the proto-language or distance from it. The relative stability or non-stability shown by languages may be motivated by different factors.
