Abstract

ZAMORANO AGUILAR, Alfonso. THE NOCIONES PRÁCTICAS OF ISABEL GUZMÁN DE BRESSLER (LIMA 1876) AND THE COMPENDIO OF HERSILIA LARENAS DE HERRERA (SANTIAGO DE CHILE 1881): TWO DIFFERENT THEORETICAL MODELS OF GRAMMATISATION AND TEACHING SPANISH LANGUAGE IN LATIN AMERICA. Lingüística [online]. 2023, vol.39, n.1, pp.161-182.  Epub June 01, 2023. ISSN 2079-312X.  https://doi.org/10.5935/2079-312x.20230008.

This article analyses the contribution of two women teachers to grammatical theory in Latin America through the treatises they wrote. Specifically, it deals with the conception and division of grammar, as well as the definition and classification of the different classes of words distinguished in the 19th century by Isabel Guzmán de Bressler in Peru and Hersilia Larenas de Herrera in Chile. We conclude that it is necessary to study the contribution of women to linguistics since, in the two cases studied here, opposed from the theoretical point of view, we can observe an attachment to the previous theory (both the traditional and the innovative rationalist) but also signs of originality and personal vision in grammar and pedagogy.

Keywords : Grammar; 19th century; Hersilia Larenas de Herrera; Isabel Guzmán; word classes.
