ALMEIDA, Ayane Nazarela Santos de y OLIVEIRA JR, Miguel. INTONATIONAL ANALYSIS OF POSTAL CODES (CEP) IN BRAZILIAN PORTUGUESE. Lingüística [online]. 2021, vol.37, n.2, pp.9-29. Epub 01-Dic-2021. ISSN 2079-312X. https://doi.org/10.5935/2079-312x.20210021.
The present paper aims to analyze the intonational pattern of postal codes in Brazilian Portuguese spoken in the states of Alagoas, Bahia and Sergipe. Following the literature, we selected for the analysis f0 variation, boundary tone, and pitch reset (Ladd 2008, Swerts 1997, Oliveira Jr 2000). The speech samples were collected and compose project funded by CNPq. We found a recurring high boundary tone, marking the prosodic boundaries within the utterance and a low tone associated with the end of the utterance. We also found that there was a declination of f0 within the intonation unit and this was more significant as a global pattern. These results suggest that the utterance of postal codes in Brazilian Portuguese are integrated into an underlying structure of the language, and that through systematic use of specific intonational patterns, speakers of Brazilian Portuguese treat this numerical grouping as typical declarative sentences.
