This article claims that Ferdinand de Saussure’s Cours de linguistique générale (CLG) could well be treated as a classical book, a category that doesn’t seem to belong to the scientific literature. To support this idea we focus on the concept of transtextuality as was developed by Gerard Genette (1982) and different ways in which it permeates the famous book. By pointing out a representative series of textual relationships inside and outside CLG, the main features of what a classical book is made of comes to the fore.
Keywords : CLG; Ferdinand de Saussure; transtextuality.
