CASTRO, Maria Fausta Pereira de. On the asymmetrie in/of adult-child dialogue. Lingüística [online]. 2019, vol.35, n.2, pp.49-57. Epub Dec 01, 2019. ISSN 2079-312X. https://doi.org/10.5935/2079-312x.20190016.
Modern linguistics attributes to Pragmatics the study of language considering the effects of speakers’ point of view, choices and coercions, imposed on them when using language in social interaction (Crystal 2008, Parret 1988). From this perspective, we intend to explore pragmatic (in)flexibility in language acquisition. Adopting an empirical point of view, we will analyse a set of data from the corpora of children between two and four years of age, in dialogue with adults. One can observe that in spite of extreme asymmetry between their speech, performative dimensions of language sustain mother and child’s dialogue. Along child’s playing in making and unmaking the sign, language imposes itself by its “permanent conditions”, opening a path for the implantation of the mother language.
