Abstract

SIMIONI, Taíse; LUDWIG GAYER, Juliana Escalier  and  DE OLIVEIRA DUTRA, Eduardo. EXTERNAL SANDHI IN BRAZILIAN PORTUGUESE AND SPANISH. Lingüística [online]. 2019, vol.35, n.1, pp.179-205.  Epub June 01, 2019. ISSN 2079-312X.  https://doi.org/10.5935/2079-312x.20190010.

In this work, we discuss the external sandhi, as a variable phenomenon, in Brazilian Portuguese and Spanish. Our objectives are (i) to present a description of sandhi in PB and Spanish, (ii) to analyze the functioning of the degemination in both languages, and (iii) to draw up an intervention proposal, taking into account the context of Spanish teaching as a foreign language to BP speakers, more specifically to Spanish teachers in initial formation. In the descriptive aspect, it was possible to observe similarities and differences of the external sandhi in both languages.

In the explanatory aspect of the work, we observed that, in terms of stress actuation, there are more similarities than differences between the languages. In relation to teaching, we propose an instructional intervention that presupposes the relevance of the analysis and discussion of linguistic phenomena in the context of language teacher training.

Keywords : external sandhi; Brazilian Portuguese; Spanish; variation; teaching.
