Abstract

COMPANY, Concepción Company. PLURALS THAT ARE NOT SUCH: A CONTRIBUTION FROM TNE SPANISH LANGUAGE TO REANALYSIS TYPOLOGY. Lingüística [online]. 2017, vol.33, n.1, pp.73-87. ISSN 2079-312X.  https://doi.org/10.5935/2079-312x.20170005.

The paper analyzes a type of reanalysis undergone by Spanish, not included in specialized literature about this kind of change. The change is the reanalysis of the plural morpheme -s into an intensive marker. The consequence of such a reanalysis is the creation of improper interjections. The paper, firstly, poses some theoretical aspects related to reanalysis, secondly the specialized literature is revised, searching for identifying this kind of reanalysis, finally examines the categories that are the basis for this reanalysis, the diachronic path which must have followed this kind of change, and the dialectal extension of the change.

Keywords : Reanalysis; plural morpheme; intensity; discourse marker; interjection; mass nouns; pronominal clitics.
