Abstract

SCLIAR-CABRAL, Leonor. THE DEAD I LISTEN WITH MY OPEN EYES: HOMAGE TO MOACYR SCLIAR. Lingüística [online]. 2016, vol.32, n.1, pp.79-93. ISSN 2079-312X.  https://doi.org/10.5935/2079-312X.20160005.

The aim of this paper is a discussion of the criteria used on the translation of Spanish poetry into Portuguese. I thus exemplify it with the translations of Quevedo’s sonnets, specifically of the sonnet “Desde la torre”. I based the criteria upon theories of translation, more specifically upon poetic translation. I describe in detail the genre sonnet, particularly its metrics and rhymes, and the difficulties of translating them. I end the paper with a microanalysis of “Desde la torre” translation into Portuguese.

Keywords : Poetic translation; Difficulties; Spanish/Portuguese; Quevedo; Barroque.
