Abstract
SANCHEZ, Liliana and ZDROJEWSKI, Pablo. Semantic and Pragmatic Restrictions on Accusative Clitic Doubling in Buenos Aires and Lima Spanish. Lingüística [online]. 2013, vol.29, n.2, pp.271-320. ISSN 2079-312X.
Direct object (DO) clitic doubling structures in Buenos Aires and Lima Spanish a analyzed in terms of the semantic features asssociated with the DO referent and according to the informational structure of the sentence. Experiment 1 shows that clitic doubling does not correspond to a single semantic feature (cf. Jaeggli 1982, Suñer 1998) or a hierarchy of features but to a spectrum of features. A second experiment shows that DO clitic doubling is incompatible with focusing of constituents other than the DO. Acceptability of clitic doubling requires that only the DO is interpreted as focused. The study also provides evidence in favor of an object shift analysis of clitic doubling. Results indicate that the acceptability of clitic doubling sentences is computed at the interface between syntax and the interpretative component interface at the lexical and pragamatic levels
