Abstract

CANOVA, Matías R. A THEORETICAL-LINGUISTIC APPROACH TO ARGENTINIAN DOCUMENTARY ABOUT INDIGENOUS GROUPS. Lingüística [online]. 2013, vol.29, n.1, pp.205-235. ISSN 2079-312X.

The documentary about indigenous groups presents a particular problematic: language alternation. While the ethnic tongue serves to the argumentation and the construction of the group image, Spanish is necessary for the documentary to be intelligibility to its potential audience. The present paper offers a theoretical frame for the study of this subject. In order to achieve it, documentary about indigenous groups is characterized as a case of language alternation as an unmarked choice (Myers-Scotton 1993b) and, afterwards, variables which impact on the alternation pattern are introduced

Keywords : Linguistic theory; language alternation; documentary films.
