Abstract

DE SEGADAS VIANNA, Juliana Barbosa  and  DOS SANTOS LOPES, Célia Regina. THE IMPLEMENTATION OF A GENTE IN THE ACCUSATIVE, DATIVE AND OBLIQUE CASES: REFLEXIONS, PROPOSALS AND PRIMARY RESULTS. Lingüística [online]. 2013, vol.29, n.1, pp.11-36. ISSN 2079-312X.

The process of substituting ‘nós’ for ‘a gente’ (we) in the position of the subject can be considered an ongoing process of change in Brazilian Portuguese. In this study, we intend to analyze how the variation occurs in other syntactic functions, as verb complement and noun complement. In the first case, we analyze namely: (i) accusative; (ii) dative; (iii) indirect verb complement; (iv) indirect verb adjunct. In the second, we propose to study possessive noun phrases as nominal complements and adjuncts. Following the orientation of Labovian sociolinguistics, the quantitative analysis was based on interviews conducted in the Rio de Janeiro city. The results show that the new pronoun ‘a gente’ is more frequent in clausal phrase, while the old pronoun ‘nós’ still remains productive in noun phrase.

Keywords : Linguistic variation; Personal pronouns; Accusative; Dative; Oblique.
