BELLORO, Valeria A.  y  GUERRERO, Lilián. THE GRAMMAR-DISCOURSE INTERFACE OF MOTION CLAUSES IN YAQUI. Lingüística [online]. 2012, vol.27, n.1, pp.197-220. ISSN 2079-312X.

This article studies the grammar-discourse interface of motion clauses in a corpus of oral narratives in Yaqui, from the standpoint of the Preferred Argument Structure theory (PAS, Du Bois 1987, 2003). The PAS has shown that there are strong cross-linguistic tendencies affecting the realization of arguments in spontaneous discourse. In this work, those tendencies are used as a tool to contribute additional evidence from which to deduce the grammatical status of locative phrases associated with motion verbs. The results of this study show that the motion clauses in the corpus follow the same discourse tendencies exhibited by canonical transitive clauses, contributing empirical evidence to recent claims supporting the argument status of sources, goals and locations associated with motion verbs in other languages (Beavers, Levin y Tham 2010).

Palabras clave : grammar-discourse interface; preferred argument structure; Yaqui language.
