Resumen

GABBIANI, Beatriz. CONFLICT MANAGMENT IN THE CLASSROOM AS SOCIAL LEARNING. Lingüística [online]. 2012, vol.28, n.1, pp.207-221. ISSN 2079-312X.

In this paper I analize an episode in a primary school classroom, where there´s a conflict of faces (Goffman 1967, Brown and Levinson 1987) between the speakers in a contentious situation. This case seems to involve a controversy or a conflict of interests, but it could also be considered a developmental conflict (Johnson and Johnson 2009). In the analysis I discuss if it is possible to acknowledge any kind of intentionality in threatening the interlocutor’s face (as a strategy of impoliteness, Culpeper 1996), or if the impolite effect (Cordisco 2005) is the result of the recipient´s perception, due to the fact that they have different expectations. Finally, I conclude that this kind of exchange is of fundamnetal importance in order to lay the foundations of future critical citizens, who will be able to defend their points of view by talking as well as to understand other people´s opinions

Palabras clave : conflict; learning; politeness; interaction.
