Abstract

BECERRA VALDERRAMA, María Isabel. PROSDIC FEATURES IN THE PRODUCTION OF TWO FORMS OF IRONY IN SPANISH LAGUAGE. Lingüística [online]. 2012, vol.28, n.1, pp.191-205. ISSN 2079-312X.

The aim of this article was to evaluate possible prosodic features that belong to ironic mockery and criticism in two forms of irony: hyperboles and rhetorical questions in Spanish language. Because that we made an analysis with 12 sentences (6 hyperboles and 6 rhetorical questions) with five different intonations (ironic criticism and mockery, anger, sadness and neutral). The acoustic patters that were taken into account for the analysis were fundamental frequency (F0), duration and intensity.  Results showed that ironic sentences presented some features that could be related to ironic tone of voice such as higher fundamental frequency, a longer duration and a higher intensity.

Keywords : irony; intonation; hyperboles rhetoric questions; prosody and ironic tone of voice.
