Abstract

CARPIO, María Belén. INTERACTION OF NOMINAL POSSESSION AND NUMBER IN TOBA ÑACHILAMOLEʔK: GUAYCURUAN FAMILY, FORMOSA, ARGENTINA. Lingüística [online]. 2012, vol.28, n.1, pp.99-118. ISSN 2079-312X.

In this paper, I analyze the syntagmatic co-occurence of possession and number affixes in the possessed nouns in the variety of Toba spoken in Western Formosa or Toba Ñachilamoleʔk. First, I present number and possessive affixes in paradigmatic terms, and then I describe the syntagmatic interaction of them. I demonstrate that when the possessor is second person plural the affix ordering is: 2possessor-possessed noun-plural.possessed-2plural.possessor. The number morpheme occurs next to the nominal core followed by the plural of the possessor. When the possessor is third person plural, the co-occurence of the morphemes that encode plurality of the possessor and of the possessed noun was not attested

Keywords : affix ordering; plural possessed entities; plural possessors.
