Abstract

LANZA ECHEVESTE, Damián Guillermo. Tratamiento odontológico integral del paciente oncológico: Parte I. Odontoestomatología [online]. 2011, vol.13, n.17, pp.14-25. ISSN 1688-9339.

The odontologic treatment of the oncologic patient maybe one of the largest challenges that a dentist can confront, because it is a very complex situation, which requires a meticulous attention, comprehensive, tidy and coordinated with a multidisciplinary team, whith the aim of the complete cure of the patient with the lowest side eff ects caused by the oncologic treatment. To achieve this is essential to follow an oncologic attention protocol which will be spitted up in 3 stages: pre, intra and post oncologic therapy which include different treatments. This work is directed by the general dentist, who many times is the professional in charge of doing some or all of these treatments because the patient lives far away of the hospital centre and only goes there to do a specifi c oncologic treatment. This paper described the odontologic pathologies generated by oncologic therapy, how to prevent and treat them
