FERNANDEZ, Luis Ignacio; ZANOTTA, Guillermo y KREINER, Marcelo. A comparative study of the post-stimulus electromiographic complex in edentulous patients who underwent conventional vs. Piezographic rehabilitation. Odontoestomatología [online]. 2010, vol.12, n.14, pp.45-53. ISSN 1688-9339.
The study of the electromyographic silent periods have been applied in several areas in dentistry, although had never been used in piezography rehabilitation. Considering that this technique is based on the functional respect of the paraprotetic muscles, it was appropriate to perform a comparative study of the post-stimulus electromyographic complex of the masseter muscle between patients who underwent complete denture rehabilitation by piezographic or conventional technique. We used an automatic recording system that allowed a basal analysis of the reflex as well as short-term and medium-term follow-ups. The results showed intra-individual improvements in the analyzed variables with both treatments, although some variables showed a more favourable trend in piezographic rehabilitation. In conclusion, this refleximetric study allowed an objective assessment of the impact of extensive rehabilitations in the neuromuscular system
