Abstract

SCHONFELD, Fátima Soledad  and  HESS, Carina Daniela. Association between Psychological Capital and Personal Growth Initiative in secondary school students. Cuad. Investig. Educ. [online]. 2024, vol.15, n.2, e203.  Epub Dec 01, 2024. ISSN 1510-2432.  https://doi.org/10.18861/cied.2024.15.2.3746.

Psychological Capital and Personal Growth Initiative are personal resources that can generate benefits in different vital environments, such as the school context during adolescence. Thus, the aim of this paper was to study the correlation between these variables in secondary school students in the province of Entre Ríos, Argentina, at three points in their school career. The study is quantitative, being a longitudinal and descriptive-correlational research. The Psychological Capital Questionnaire and the Personal Growth Initiative Scale, both instruments adapted to an Argentinean sample, were used to collect data. Statistically significant positive correlations were obtained between all dimensions at each of the three evaluation times. Based on the findings, it is feasible to assume that a student who possesses the resources that constitute psychological capital will also have the capacity to benefit from the opportunities for change and growth that arise. Furthermore, it is worth noting that the association scores exhibited a slight decrease towards the end of the third half, which coincides with middle adolescence. This stage is characterized by a certain level of instability, various changes, and uncertainties about the future; for all these reasons, it is essential to promote personal strengths in adolescent students through psychological interventions.

Keywords : psychological capital; personal growth; students; adolescence; positive psychology.
