Abstract
PUCARELLI, Michele and LATGE, Luiz Claudio Costa. The representation of reality on digital platforms. Inmediac. Comun [online]. 2024, vol.19, n.2, e210. Epub Dec 01, 2024. ISSN 1510-5091. https://doi.org/10.18861/ic.2024.19.2.3765.
The article examines the use of images in journalism, their contribution to the social construction of reality, and the establishment of an aesthetic of truth throughout the technical evolution of media. The research seeks to understand the effects of digital platforms and social networks on the production and distribution of information. A central hypothesis is that the new information system, stripped of traditional journalistic codes and other institutional filters, creates a space where facts, reality, and fantasy converge. This facilitates the spread of fake news and misinformation, weakening the image's capacity to represent a world beyond itself. The research adopts a qualitative analysis of digital platform content based on a critical reading of selected images and a review of both classic and contemporary literature.
