Abstract

CARDOZO, SANTIAGO  and  LORENZO, VIRGINIA. Social and territorial inequities in the Access to the Universidad de la República after seven years of regionalization. Pág. Educ. [online]. 2015, vol.8, n.1, pp.01-42. ISSN 1688-7468.

The regionalization process undertaken by the Universidad de la República since 2007, that includes the foundation of university campuses in locations where no previous supply existed, led to a significant increase in the number and diversity of higher education careers available for students settled in the provinces. We search for changes in higher education access rates and in the social and regional inequities associated with university access odds. We based on two cohort follow-ups of students that faced higher education transition, respectively, right before and after regionalization. While we find no support for improvements, neither in overall access rates nor in its determinants, our results suggest that regionalization might have led to fewer students from the provinces who moved to Montevideo to carry on their educational careers

Keywords : Higher Education; access; equity; regionalization.
