Abstract

SILAS CASILLAS, JUAN CARLOS. Quality and accreditation in Higher Education: Realities and Challenges for Latin America. Pág. Educ. [online]. 2014, vol.7, n.2, pp.104-123. ISSN 1688-7468.

The text deals with the issue of quality in Higher Education and its relation with the national schemes implemented for the accreditation of programs and institutions. The text provides data, exemplifies practices from Anglo-Saxon and Asian countries, and brings a brief description of Latin-American mechanisms for accreditation. The conclusion goes in two ways: a) despite the growth of rhetoric, the practices focus in finding determining exemplar practices at the institutional level, which has improved the quality of qualitative data in the continent, and b) the analyzed mechanisms focus on efficiency according to international standards, leaving aside key aspects in education like equity or equality

Keywords : quality; accreditation; evaluation; Higher Education; Latin America.
