Abstract

BRUNNER, JOSÉ JOAQUÍN. University, Power and Law. Pág. Educ. [online]. 2014, vol.7, n.2, pp.06-32. ISSN 1688-7468.

This paper characterizes the uncertainties of present day universities taking as a starting point its history, which is followed around its ever changing forms of insertion in the fields of law and power. Nowadays the intellectual power of universities confronts a scenario governed in part by market forces, in which higher education institutions no longer maintain a monopoly over the production of advanced knowledge, the exchange value and symbolic value of academic credentials, and the capacity for self-regulation in accordance with their own ideals and interests.

Keywords : university; intellectual power; market forces.
