Abstract

The achievement of the obligatory formal education is an event that more than 50% of Uruguayan youth does not experiment. This trend has not been reverted even with a high budget for education. The project panel PISA-2006 surveyed a representative sample of young people that were evaluated by PISA when they attended first year of upper secondary in public schools from Montevideo and Maldonado. We applied a logistic regression model to examine the marginal effects associated with the completion of the secondary level. We observe that the type of secondary, and PISA's results are factors that explain the high school level, with equal consistency that the gender, and even more than the effect of home as well as working and studying
