Abstract

GIOSCIA, Laura. Education in civic virtues, gender and the family. Pág. Educ. [online]. 2013, vol.6, n.1, pp.138-149. ISSN 1688-7468.

This paper shows that mainstream institutional theories fail to attend to sexual difference when analyzing the manner in which individuals inhabit, act within and are treated by the institutions that structure their lives. Firstly, the article analyzes the institution of the family which constructs and shapes the behavior of both sexes. Secondly, outlines some feminist perspectives regarding debates about the family and the civic virtues providing some examples in the uruguayan case. I will finally refer to the possibility of reshaping institutions taking into account some considerations that emerge from these debates

Keywords : gender; family; civic virtues; education.
