Abstract

DA SILVEIRA, Pablo. Freedom of education, religious freedom, secularization and laicism: confusing borders and false associations. Pág. Educ. [online]. 2012, vol.5, n.1, pp.17-35. ISSN 1688-7468.

In this article I do not intend to defend any substantive argument but a clarification and delimitation of a specific topic. I will distinguish between the notions of teaching freedom, religious freedom and secularism. The article tries to show that, while there are obvious links among these concepts, these should not be treated as synonymous or lightly associated. If we could move on in this direction, we would save a lot of false debates that very often end up giving very few answers in democratic societies

Keywords : government of education; basic liberties; religion; parents; freedom of choice.
