Abstract
FERREIRA, Gabrielle Braga Chaves; WOLTER, Rafael Moura Coelho Pecly and GOMES, Antonio Marcos Tosoli. Family and social ties: the construction of religious social representation for atheists, Spiritists and Candomblé practitioners based on the study of Social Memory. Psicol. Conoc. Soc. This article aims to understand how social memory influences the construction of religious representation of non-hegemonic religious groups. To this end, it employs Social Representation Theory as its theoretical framework, also delving into social memory. The research consisted of individual interviews with a semi-structured script and sociodemographic questions, involving 12 participants from each of the following groups: Spiritists, Candomblé practitioners and atheists, from different cities in Brazil. Data collection took place from June 2023 to November of the same year. The results were subjected to Bardin's content analysis. The findings indicate the conclusions that family influences the formation of social religious identity and social representations of religion. However, the family is not the sole source of influence for such identity and representations; the religious institution itself, the hegemonic social thought, and socio- political issues also resonate in the representations of these groups.
Keywords : Religion; social memory; social representations.
