Abstract

LIMA, Aline Venceslau Vieira de; COSTA, Rita de Cássia da Silva  and  COSTA, Ana Caroline Alves da. Justification Discourses of Justice in Prejudice Against Ethnic and Minority Groups. Psicol. Conoc. Soc. [online]. 2025, vol.15, n.1, pp.-.  Epub Dec 01, 2025. ISSN 1688-7026.  https://doi.org/10.26864/pcs.v15.n1.2.

The present study aimed to verify the use of justice discourses to legitimize the social exclusion of ethnic and minority groups in Brazil. A qualitative study was carried out using an online questionnaire using six discursive questions and sociodemographic questions. Ninety-seven participated in the study, aged between 18 and 64, 50% of whom declared themselves white. The analysis of open questions was carried out using the content analysis technique and the results showed that justifying discourses based on justice are used by Brazilians as a way of legitimizing discriminatory practices and perpetuating prejudice against these groups. Furthermore, it was noticed that the process of social exclusion against black people and black immigrants is similar mainly due to the issue of skin color, while gypsies and indigenous people also show similarities in the way they are excluded and made invisible. These results corroborate studies on the role of justice in social exclusion.

Keywords : Prejudice; justice; content analysis.
