PANTA, Clóvis Gomes et al. Sources of Information on Mental Health Used by a Sample of Brazilian Adults. Psicol. Conoc. Soc. [online]. 2025, vol.15, n.1, pp.-. Epub Dec 01, 2025. ISSN 1688-7026. https://doi.org/10.26864/pcs.v15.n1.1.
The objective of this study was to identify the Sources of Information on Mental Health (SIMH) preferred by a sample of Brazilian adults. 828 people aged between 18 and 76 years old, with incomplete or complete higher education, participated in the study. Data were collected online through self-report questionnaires and analyzed with descriptive statistics, Chi-Square association test and Mann-Whitney U test. The results show that the SIMH preferred by participants in this study were the Internet, books and scientific articles, formal and informal appointment with health professionals. However, significant results (p<5%) were found when preferences are associated with other factors, such as gender, age, income, the presence or absence of symptoms of depression, anxiety and personality factors. It is concluded that health professionals can guide their patients to reliable sources, especially sources accessed via the internet, to obtain additional information about each case.
