Abstract
VACA, Grace Latorre et al. Psychometric properties of Parental Bonding Instrument (PBI) in Ecuadorian university students. Psicol. Conoc. Soc. [online]. 2020, vol.10, n.3, pp.63-78. Epub Dec 01, 2020. ISSN 1688-7026. https://doi.org/10.26864/pcs.v10.n3.5.
The objective of this study was to obtain the validity and reliability indices of the Parental Bonding Instrument (PBI) in its Mother and Father versions in the Ecuadorian population. The research was quantitative and instrumental; a Confirmatory Factor Analysis was performed, and the reliability of both instruments was verified. The participants were young university students from Quito (n = 663 for the Mother PBI and n = 611 for the Father PBI). The results of the two versions showed a factorial structure of two factors with reduction of items for each one, with adequate reliability: (1) Mother PBI: 20 items, F1 (ω = .86), F2 (ω = .78), (2) Father PBI: 17 items, F1 (ω = .88) , F2 (ω = .78). Therefore, it can be concluded that the instrument preserves the factorial structure of the original version and has adequate psychometric properties for use in the Ecuadorian population.
