The article aims to verify the relationship between school engagement and character strengths, specifically to know the prevalence of the variables studied, identify the influence of school and sex on school engagement. 233 students from basic education participated, with an average age of 15.10 (SD = 1.46), 51.1% female and 53.2% from public schools. It was used the Character strengths Scale, School Engagement Scale, and Sociodemographic questionnaire. The results indicated that the 24 strengths correlated positively with all factors of school engagement. It was observed that there was a higher prevalence of the absorption factor, followed by dedication and vigor. The strengths with higher scores were gratitude, curiosity, kindness and modesty. Public school students scored more in engagement than those of the private school. There was no significant difference as to sex. It is concluded that the strengths collaborate to stimulate actions and positive feelings about learning.
