Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) is the primary psychiatric diagnosis that receive children and adolescents. Little has been reported about the meanings that are built around an individual receiving this diagnostic category. The main social construction on this disorder is to conceive of the person suffering from it as a being who has a sick mind which must be medicated for routing in cognitive and behavioral standards established culturally and socially. The present article describes and analyzes the different practices that are generated around the diagnosis of ADHD. The methodology used in this study was to review articles indexed in the databases Latindex, Scopus and Web of Science from 2001 to 2014. The main search terms used were constructions of ADHD, narrative constructed in ADHD, meanings emerge in ADHD, and qualitative research in ADHD in Spanish and English. In conclusion is important to be responsible for the clinical practices that influence the construction of the identity of human beings, especially those who can meet the symptoms associated with ADHD.
