GIMENEZ, Luis Emilio. Psychologists in Uruguay: an approximation. Psicol. Conoc. Soc. [online]. 2016, vol.6, n.1, pp.29-62. ISSN 1688-7026.

This paper presents an explorative approximation to the situation of the psychologists in Uruguay. It makes a quantitative estimate of some of its features and problems from different data sources and especially the National Census of Psychology 2014 and the bases of human resources of the Ministry of Public Health. It argues the need of more and better studies, taking into account the occupational integration of psychologists in the context of changing model of care , driven by health reform . It notes increasing enrollees and graduates of undergraduate studies , in absolute and relative terms compared to other university programs. The existence of a large number of psychologists possibly puts the country in the first place , in relation to country population , with a predominantly female percentage , high presence of recent graduates, and concentrated in metropolitan area . Even with improvements in recent years , the data still show a weak integration into the health system, which is consistent with the perception of an insufficient response to the needs of psychological care Required by the thus advance the research to generate input for the design of human resources policies health.
