VOMMARO, Gabriel. Breaking the Rules: Far-Right Encounters with Media and Digital Mobilization in Latin America. Rev. Urug. Cienc. Polít. [online]. 2025, vol.34, e615. Epub 01-Dic-2025. ISSN 0797-9789. https://doi.org/10.26851/rucp.34.12.
In order to contribute to the literature on the relationship between far-right groups and the media in Latin America, I focus on two central aspects: first, the tension with mainstream media that leads far-right leaders to find in the digital public sphere a space to develop their “cultural battle” against progressivism. These actors encounter high barriers to entry in the mainstream media due to their programmatic break with majority political consensus and their break with the “rules of etiquette” of traditional media. Second, far-right groups’ organizational use of digital resources to coordinate the dissemination of messages and frames to an activist base that compensates for their limited offline organizational resources.
Palabras clave : Far right; mainstream media; digital media; digital activism; Latin America.
