Abstract

TAGINA, María Laura. Argentina 2023 elections: the rise of the radical right in power. Rev. Urug. Cienc. Polít. [online]. 2024, vol.33, e402.  Epub Dec 01, 2024. ISSN 0797-9789.  https://doi.org/10.26851/rucp.33.5.

General elections were held in Argentina on 22 October 2023. This electoral process ended in November with second round and the inauguration of Javier Milei, candidate of La Libertad Avanza (Freedom Moves Forward), as the new president. In the legislative elections, the ruling front Unión por la Patria (Union for Homeland) came first. These results have led to a fragmented legislature and a minority government, with important challenges for democratic governance. We analyze the election results, Milei’s voters profile and reflect on their political implications for Argentine democracy.

Keywords : elections; radical right; Argentina; Milei.
