The tradition of the Italian political thinking has been projected on the development of political science in the Western world and beyond, particularly in Latin America. This article describes and analyzes the main contributions of the theoretical currents and authors of the Italian political thinking and political science, from a contextual perspective of the disciplines development and guided by the intellectual-bibliographical legacies. Five «schools of thought» are historically identified: the realistic one; the classical elitism; the Marxists; and in the period of contemporary political science, the Turin school, oriented to political philosophy; and the Florentine school, oriented to comparative politics. Based on this identification, it involves articulating its influence in Latin American political science.
