GRANDINETTI, Juan. How do Political Parties Develop Youth Activism? A Case Study of Center-Right Parties in Argentina (ucr and pro). Rev. Urug. Cienc. Polít. [online]. 2023, vol.32, n.2, pp.67-90. Epub 01-Dic-2023. ISSN 0797-9789. https://doi.org/10.26851/rucp.32.2.3.
The development of activism is crucial for the strengthening of party organizations and thus for their sustainability. However, we know little about how contemporary parties manage to produce and reproduce this asset. We present the results of a qualitative case study of two parties in the city of Buenos Aires with different socio-organizational configurations: a traditional party -survivor of the collapse of 2001 crisis and out of government since then- that preserves an organization born a century ago (ucr); and a party formed in the post-crisis period -with an upward electoral trajectory and an informal organization- that has rapidly gained access to local government (pro). We show how the resources and incentives that these parties mobilize for this task shape different formats of activism in their youth organizations.
