Abstract

RODRIGUEZ, Cecilia Graciela. The legislative activity of the parliamentary opposition in Argentine subnational legislatures. Rev. Urug. Cienc. Polít. [online]. 2015, vol.24, n.1, pp.23-45. ISSN 0797-9789.

Abstract: Despite the importance of the opposition as a political actor in democratic systems, it has hardly been addressed; few studies examine the role of the opposition in democratic governments. In turn, most of these (mainly case) studies analyze parliamentary democracies where the government-opposition configures political dynamics. The role of the opposition in presidential contexts is thus scarce, especially on the subnational level. This paper aims at examining the legislative activity of the opposition in five representative subnational legislatures in Argentina: Buenos Aires, Córdoba, Entre Ríos, Río Negro, and Santa Fe, during three legislative periods per parliament between 1995 and 2007.

Keywords : opposition; subnational legislatures; legislative activity; Argentina.
