FLORES, Manuel  and  SELIOS, Lucía. Generational profiles in Uruguayans’ political preferences. Rev. Urug. Cienc. Polít. [online]. 2011, vol.20, n.1, pp.33-62. ISSN 1688-499X.

The evolution of opinions and attitudes of individuals comprises a tension between continuity and change. Each person tends to modify his/her points of view over the course of life. This occurs as result of aging and of the social events that influence the preferences of the entire population. However, each generation can show its distinctive features in regard to this evolution. Using public opinion polls (1995-2008) and the APC approach, this paper analyzes Uruguayan profiles for ideological self-identification and voting intention according to age, period and cohort. It is concluded that significative variations among political preferences exist in each of the components. In addition, four political generations are identified. They are defined by their electoral preferences and marked by recent historical events

Keywords : Age-Period-Cohort; generations; public opinion; ideological self-identification; vote.
