Abstract

RILLA, José. Revisionism and the left in Uruguay and Argentina. Rev. Urug. Cienc. Polít. [online]. 2010, vol.19, n.1, pp.69-94. ISSN 1688-499X.

Abstract: Historical Revisionism in Rio de la Plata countries constitutes a frontier that both unites and separates Argentina and Uruguay. In spite of their differences in scale –territory, population, income– the two countries show interesting grounds for comparison, as well as for visualization of their respective itineraries. Central to this paper are the concepts of nation and nationalism, within the context of universalist-oriented leftist trends and popular, mass-based political movements. Trends of Historical Revisionism host and articulate these dimensions distinctively on either side of the River, embedding political resignifications of the past that open up valuable ways of reconstructing discursive notions of Nation and Republic.

Keywords : historical revisionism; nationalism; left; Uruguay; Argentina.
