Pituitary pars intermedia dysfunction (PPID) is a common endocrine disorder in geriatric horses, affecting equines between 18 and 23 years of age, without any other clear predisposition. The main clinical signs include hypertrichosis, lethargy, laminitis, weight loss and muscle wastage. Its economic impact lies mainly in subclinical cases, which may go unnoticed, causing a decrease in performance, infertility and medical care and treatment expenses aiming to solve these aspects. It is an underdiagnosed pathology in Uruguay and no treatment is available. The purpose of this work is to report the first diagnosed PPID case in this country.
