CASTRO, Oscar. Helminth’ list parasites of domestic carnivores from Uruguay, with notes on their clinical importance and zoonotic relevance. Veterinaria (Montev.) [online]. 2025, vol.61, n.224, e301.  Epub 01-Dez-2025. ISSN 0376-4362.  https://doi.org/10.29155/vet.61.224.2.

A total of 45 taxa of helminths (trematodes, cestodes, nematodes and acanthocephalans) have been recorded parasitizing domestic carnivores in Uruguay. Of these, 29 have been found in dogs, including three taxa of trematodes, one of larval cestodes, 10 of adult cestodes, one of larval nematodes, 13 of adult nematodes (one of them in a canine imported from another country) and one acanthocephalan. In felines, 21 taxa of helminths have been recorded, including three of trematodes, one of larval cestodes, three of adult caestodes, one of larval nematodes, 12 of adult nematodes and one acanthocephalan. In the case of the only acanthocephalan taxon found so far in domestic canines and felines from Uruguay, the genus Corynosoma, the original records confused or ignored its belonging to the phylum Acanthocephala, which is corrected here. The clinical importance for their animal host and the zoonotic relevance of each of the listed helminth species are briefly discussed.
