Abstract

VETTER, Joerg Richard; MAIDANA, Leila Gertrudis  and  DOMINGUEZ, Nilsa Melissa. Intestinal leiomyoma in budgerigar (Melopsittacus undulatus). Veterinaria (Montev.) [online]. 2024, vol.60, n.221, e402.  Epub June 01, 2024. ISSN 0376-4362.  https://doi.org/10.29155/vet.60.221.5.

Leiomyomas are masses of well-differentiated smooth muscle cells that generally develop throughout the gastrointestinal, genitourinary, and hepatobiliary systems, and may be found beneath intact mucosa. This report describes a case of intestinal leiomyoma in a captive Budgerigar (Melopsittacus undulatus) diagnosed post-mortem through histopathology using hematoxylin-eosin staining. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first report of intestinal leiomyoma in a Budgerigar.

Keywords : Leiomyoma; Neoplasm; Psittaculidae.
