Abstract

The increased prevalence of Diabetes Mellitus (DM), the aging population, chronic complications and comorbilities make these patients are hospitalized with increasing frequency. The prevalence of hospitalized patients with DM is estimated between 6.6 and 24.3%. In order to meet the national situation a descriptive, cross-sectional observational study was conducted for 48 hours in December 2012, found a prevalence of 21.5% of patients with diabetes mellitus. Thirty seven in fourty were DM 2 (0,92) and 3/40 (0,08) DM 1. We meet an aging population, with a time of newly diagnosed high prevalence of chronic complications. The main reason for hospitalization was heart disease and directly related to the DM were diabetic foot lesions
